The
3-Day In-Service Training (INSET) Program for teachers of Palo National High
School was conducted last October 22 – 24, 2012 at the Computer Laboratory of
the school and was facilitated by a Global Filipino Teacher (GFT), Ernani S.
Fernandez, and the OIC of PaloNHS- Pawing Annex, Estrellita A. Morano, who
attended the Peer Coaching and the Educational Leadership Training conducted by
the Coalition for Better Education (CBE) through Globe Telecom and in
partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd).
The
teachers who participated were the following:
English Teachers: Kenneth Cuesta, Russel James G. de Guzman; Science Teachers: Nareen Mavit D. Sta. Monica,
Ma. Marnie Liezeth C. Gaut, Lailanie D. de la Cruz, Michael C. Parado, Catherine
C. Vibar; Araling Panlipunan Teachers: Analee
T. Ongsansoy, Maribel R. Java, Divina H. Gelizon; TLE Teachers: Dennis B. Agner,
Melchor O. Marin; Filipino Teachers: Gemma
C. Fulminar, Jeniffer L. Aquino; Mathematics Teacher: Judith C. Lago; and MAPEH
Teacher: Jennybeth C. Quinto.
Certificates of Completion were given to these
teachers for their active participation and compliance for all of the
activities they had performed.
The
training was conducted to enhance and develop the teaching competence of the
teachers with advance level of expertise that will apply innovative changes in
their methods of teaching. These 16 teachers
who participated and were trained to be innovative will apply ICT tools for
effective classroom management. This is
in response with the rapid advancement of ICT and the awareness of the educators in the 21st
century skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration.
They
were required to perform different activities in line with the 21st
century skills with ICT applications such as: powerpoint digital quiz, digital
story telling, downloading and installing software from the Internet, on-line
puzzle making, on-line converting video files to MP3 and MP4 format, converting
powerpoint to video file, converting powerpoint slides into JPEG format using
paint, blogging, creating electronic module, burning MP3/MP4 files to CDs/DVDs,
uploading and sending files, and on-line collaboration.
For
Peer Coaching, teachers are expected to mentor at least 2 teachers in the same
school and 2 teachers from other school either in elementary or secondary.
They
were also trained on the effective use of Project-Based Learning (PBL) that will
increase students’ participation through collaboration.
With
the help of the other GFTs from Palo National High School, Jessica O. Gacelos,
Rhea B. Sampere, Rafaelita C. Batiancela and Fidelino M. Josol, the peer
coaching will be strengthened and these teachers will be observed on their
innovative teaching on the third quarter of the academic year 2012 – 2013.
