Accounting makes exciting with ICT

Another year had passed and a new year to face this school year 2012 – 2013.  For how many years, Basic Accounting or Bookkeeping had been taught to the 4th year students of Palo National High School and had resulted to a rewarding one.

It was year 2003 when this lesson was first introduced as part of the curriculum in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) - Business Technology.   The school has 7 computers that time and were donated by the Department of Education (DepEd).  With the ratio of 5:1, 5 students using 1 computer, knowledge and skills in basic bookkeeping / accounting were still acquired by the students.

On the same year, during the 2nd Student Technologists and Entrepreneurs of the Philippines (STEP) Skills Competition in the ICT Category, one of our students had qualified to the national skills development and competition which was held at Iloilo National High School, Iloilo City.  Luckily, my student, Ritchelle Roldan, won and landed on the 5th Rank for Spreadsheet competition, out of 16 competing regions in the country.

The first national award received by the school… this became an inspiration and motivated the students to study well on their academics particularly in learning the skills in basic bookkeeping/accounting in TLE-Business Technology.

After 1 year, 10 more computers were added in our computer laboratory through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) with their PCPS (Personal Computers for Public Schools) Project Phase 2 and Internet connectivity through GILAS. This made the school became the number 1 school in the Eastern Visayas Region in ICT Category.  Palo National High School became consistent winners in the ICT competition in STEP and even in the ICT Quiz Challenge in ACLC or AMA.

In every national STEP competition, Palo National High School students will always be in the list of national finalists and may even won in the competition.

Ramonchito N. Jaca won 2nd Placer in Spreadsheet during the 5th STEP National Skills Competition at Baguio City.  He was the valedictorian in his batch and recently graduated Summa Cumlaude at the University of the Philippines – Tacloban Campus in the degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.  Two of his batch graduated Cumlaude in the same course at St. Paul’s Business School, Rey Papistol and Cesar Uy.

Truly, these students are really inspired to take and finish Accountancy after learning the basic skills in accounting or bookkeeping with ICT integration at Palo National High School.

It is really an achievement of the school to have blessed students of brilliance and kindness.

Recently this year, the school became a recipient of the DTI PCPS Phase 4 Project and donated additional 11 computers. And the Office of the Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez donated 25 computers.

Teachers were trained to be globally competitive and joined the Global Filipino Teachers Program of Globe Telecom.  This is with the coordination of the Coalition for Better Education (CBE) and Microsoft Partners in Learning.

Palo National High School will now be the Global Filipino School (GFS) in Region 8.  The 1st GFS in Eastern Visayas and the 2nd GFS in the country.

They will produce more high-tech. computer laboratory which will be equipped of all the facilities in ICT.

Hence, this school year 2012 – 2013 basic accounting or bookkeeping with ICT integration will be taught to fourth year students as their TLE IV and hoping to have more graduates in accountancy and produce more Ramonchito N. Jaca, Cesar Uy and Rey Papistol.

To all Palonians take all the challenges in life as part of your journey and gradually you can survive from all of it!
